When I was chosen to
be part of the Teaching English for Tourism course, I was very excited.
It felt like a door of opportunity had been opened, and I was really thankful
to have been selected. I saw this as not just a learning experience but as a
chance to grow both professionally and personally.
From the very
beginning, I truly enjoyed everything about the course. The classes were
engaging and well-structured, and the materials provided were useful. Sharing
ideas and collaborating with my peers made the experience even better, as it
gave me the chance to learn from others’ perspectives. I remember one
assignment we had to collaborate with a peer to create a communicative
activity, and that was really helpful because my partner had different aspects
that I was not aware of. Weekly assignments and quizzes, which some might see
as stressful, were interesting for me. I felt really proud of myself every time
I completed an assignment, even when they challenged me to think critically to
apply what I had learned in practical ways. One of the most significant things
I learned was the importance of understanding students’ needs. The course
emphasized that teaching is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, teachers
must think about their methods to meet the specific needs of their students.
This concept was eye-opening for me. It also introduced me to the idea of
creating SMART objectives—objectives that are Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. I realized how these goals can serve as a
guide for effective teaching.
Another key takeaway
from the course was how to create a better learning environment by
incorporating technology. I discovered strategies that make lessons not only
more engaging but also more effective. For example, using digital tools like
ChatGPT can help me as an educator to create games that align with my students
needs because now, I know that I need to provide ChatGPT specifics
instructions, so that its help would be appropriate. Technology is such a
powerful tool in modern teaching, and learning how to use it purposefully is a
skill I will carry with me into the future. This course didn’t just teach me
theory; it gave me practical tools and knowledge that I am eager to apply when
I become a teacher. Teaching English for tourism is a unique field, and the
insights I’ve gained throughout this journey are invaluable. The skills I’ve
developed will allow me to create meaningful and impactful learning experiences
for my future students.
Looking back, I can
confidently say that this course has been a significant milestone in my journey
as an educator. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and excited to put
everything I’ve learned into practice. Thank you once again.
Blessings!
