Vegetarians may encounter health issues that prevent them from being healthier than meat eaters.

Firstly, vegetarians may not meet the necessary amino acids, protein, and vitamins that the human body needs.1 According to a report from Self Hack by Joe Cohen (2023), Vegetarians lack amino acids that are essential, and if vegetarians don’t have a proper diet to supplement these amino acids, they may encounter health issues.2 This shows how vegetarians cannot be healthy if they lack of essential components for the body.3 Consequently, there is a risk of fracture and anemia when vegetarians lack of amino acids such as lysine and methionine.4 Research conducted by Lauren David (2021) explains how lysine helps the body to produce protein which make the muscle grow and repair among others aspects. Meanwhile, methionine like lysine is essential to produce protein, but helps to break down lips and fats as well.5 Since the human body cannot produce these amino acids on its own, it’s necessary to eat food that contains it to avoid fractures, anemia, fat metabolism, and overall health.6 While being a vegetarian promotes the proper functioning of the digestive system because plant-based diet is high in fiber.7 However, despite this benefit, the lack of essential amino acids that the body needs can lead to health issues.8 In conclusion, vegetarians are not necessarily healthier than meat eaters because the lack of amino acids which are essential for the body cannot be found in a plant-based diet.9
